Over the past few months, we’ve shared how PSI’s newly expanded Student Entrepreneur Program (STEP) is helping schools bring creativity, collaboration, and career readiness to life.
But the real story isn’t just about posters or lesson plans. It’s about transformation. When schools implement STEP, they’re not only giving students tools to design, print, and lead; they’re creating a culture of possibility, where creativity is celebrated, learning feels relevant, and students see themselves as capable of shaping their future.
STEP turns this culture of possibility into practice, helping students and teachers work together to turn ideas into action, creativity into confidence, and learning into lasting impact.
The Power of Hands-On Learning
The best learning happens when students can connect what they’re doing today to what they’ll need tomorrow. That’s the foundation of PSI’s STEP curriculum, which guides students through every stage of running a school-based business; from brainstorming and design to production and customer communication.
Each curriculum, written by teachers who use STEP in their own classrooms, helps schools tailor the experience to fit their goals. In the General Education track, students learn graphic design principles like color theory and layout, practice using software tools such as PosterArtist and Canva, and follow a full design-to-print workflow using their ecolor+ poster printer. In the CTE and Special Education models, lessons emphasize teamwork, communication, and financial literacy, helping every learner find their role and succeed.
According to research, job readiness begins long before graduation, when students have opportunities to practice collaboration, communication, and problem-solving in authentic, hands-on settings. That’s exactly what STEP provides: a structured, supported way for students to develop creativity and confidence while building the skills that set them apart in college, careers, and life.
Hands-on, career-connected learning doesn’t just prepare students for what’s next—it helps them see that they already have the power to make an impact today.
Real Impact: Confidence, Creativity, and Community
What begins as a structured classroom program often grows into something much bigger. Once students step into their roles (designers, marketers, project managers) they begin to see themselves differently.
Through STEP, creativity becomes confidence. Collaboration becomes leadership. And the walls of the classroom start to feel more like the walls of a workplace, buzzing with ideas, problem-solving, and pride.
One teacher shared:
“We absolutely love our poster printer from Presentation Systems Inc.! As a teacher, I can't say enough about how much this purchase has impacted my students. They use the printer to run our school-based business, and it has completely transformed their sense of ownership and creativity. The joy on their faces when they see their designs displayed around school and throughout the community is priceless.”
That sense of ownership is what turns hands-on learning into schoolwide transformation. Students don’t just complete projects. They see their ideas displayed in hallways, classrooms, and community spaces. They experience the real-world impact of their work.
More Than Posters: How STEP Strengthens Schoolwide Collaboration
When students thrive, the energy spreads, and STEP naturally brings teachers, administrators, and community members along for the ride. What begins as a student-run print shop often evolves into a schoolwide effort to celebrate creativity, strengthen relationships, and build pride.
Teachers use STEP to meet CTE (Career and Technical Education) requirements, while others adapt it for special education, business, or graphic design courses. PTAs and booster clubs collaborate on fundraising projects. Coaches and club sponsors rely on students to design banners and signs. In every scenario, STEP connects people around a shared goal: helping students create something real, valuable, and visible.
More and more schools are integrating the STEP program into their curriculum. Here’s why:
✔️ A one-time fee covers everything you need to start a student-run business
✔️ Comes with an ecolor+ poster printer and daily lesson plans
✔️ Supports CTE training and adapts for special education
✔️ Builds real-world skills like design, leadership, and job readiness
✔️ Backed by PSI’s ongoing support and resources
The result? Stronger collaboration between departments, greater student engagement, and a school culture centered on pride and participation. STEP gives schools the structure to get started, and the freedom to make it their own.
The Ripple Effect: A Culture That Lasts
The beauty of STEP is how quickly its impact extends beyond a single classroom. What starts with a group of students learning to design and print banners soon becomes a catalyst for pride, connection, and purpose across the entire school.
When students take ownership of their work by creating professional-quality materials that brighten hallways, celebrate achievements, and support school events, they’re not just learning. They’re shaping their environment, uplifting peers, and contributing to something bigger than themselves.
Teachers see the difference, too. STEP reinvigorates classroom culture, opening the door for collaboration across grades and subjects. It bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application—and that’s where the magic happens.
As one PSI customer shared:
“They use the printer to run our school-based business, and it has completely transformed their sense of ownership and creativity. The joy on their faces when they see their designs displayed around school and throughout the community is priceless.”
That joy—and the confidence behind it—is what PSI strives to create in every school. It’s what happens when creativity meets structure, and when students are trusted to take the lead.
Join the Culture of Possibility
The expanded STEP program is more than a curriculum. It’s a framework for empowerment. Backed by PSI’s ongoing support and powered by the ecolor+ poster printer, it equips students with the tools, training, and confidence to make an impact today while preparing for tomorrow.
When schools invest in STEP, they’re not just starting a student-run business. They’re building a culture where creativity, leadership, and career readiness intersect—a culture of possibility that lasts long after the final bell.
